Heidelberg CCUS

Heidelberg Materials, a global leader in
sustainable construction, is taking the lead in decarbonising its industry. Ashfall and Blast Design created an immersive digital experience that transforms technical complexity into clear, emotionally resonant storytelling.

Turning dense, technical content into a compelling narrative is a significant challenge when your audience spans from industry experts to the general public. We wanted to explain Heidelberg’s Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) technology in a clear, engaging, and memorable way, transforming raw data into a visually powerful experience that inspires genuine interest.

Live Website
Immersive navigation

We created a digital environment of 29
curated articles, arranged into six exploration zones. Each zone leads users through Heidelberg’s pioneering carbon-capture work, with particle-based visuals turning complexity into intuitive discovery.

CCUS Around the World

Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CCUS) is moving rapidly from niche innovation to a cornerstone of global climate strategy. Across storage hubs in North America and pioneering innovation centres throughout Europe and Asia, industries are embracing the technology as a critical path toward net zero.

To capture this global momentum, we built an interactive WebGL globe showcasing Heidelberg Materials’ worldwide CCUS initiatives. Users can now seamlessly navigate Heidelberg’s projects, gaining a clear, visual understanding of their global impact and sustainability leadership.

CCUS Facility in Brevik, Norway

Heidelberg’s Brevik site in Norway is the
cement industry's first full-scale CCUS facility. To bring its groundbreaking technology closer, we created six immersive 360° modules, giving users a direct, intuitive experience of the innovation driving Heidelberg's sustainability mission.

Ashfall Studio
Under the hood

We built the experience using Cinema4D, WebGL, and custom shaders to form a layered particle environment with genuine depth and dimension.

By carefully adjusting matcaps with varying blur levels, each particle layer dynamically responds to camera position, creating a fluid, immersive field that feels alive as users move through it.

To ensure seamless interactions and peak performance, we optimized the experience by pre-baking camera paths, including continuous looping movements between interactive elements.

Particle distribution was precision-guided by vertex-colored metaballs, neatly placing each particle exactly where it needed to be. Icons received special attention, with particles meticulously mapped and refined directly onto their surfaces, eliminating clutter and ensuring visual clarity.
